Setting the Standard: Validyne’s Legacy in Portable Respiratory Testing
When it comes to respiratory diagnostics, precision is critical—especially in assessing muscle strength in patients with neuromuscular or chronic respiratory conditions. In a notable 1994 clinical study, a newly developed portable mouth pressure meter was benchmarked against a trusted lab-standard system. At the heart of that system? The FDA approved Validyne MP45 differential pressure transducer.
The MP45 was the gold standard in that study, known for its accuracy, stability, and fast response time. Its readings were used to verify the performance of the new portable device, which ultimately proved to be a reliable solution for bedside and clinic-based respiratory testing. The comparison underscored the MP45’s reliability in sensitive clinical applications.
While the MP45 is no longer in production, it has been succeeded by the DP45, which maintains the same form factor and high-performance characteristics. The DP45 offers engineers and researchers a dependable alternative, making it easy to upgrade or maintain systems originally designed around the MP45.

At Validyne, we’re proud that our pressure transducers have long served as the reference point for innovation in healthcare. From field studies to intensive care research, our sensors continue to empower medical professionals and researchers with the data they trust.

Why This Still Matters Today
Respiratory muscle testing is a vital tool not only in diagnosing muscle weakness but also in tracking disease progression, evaluating treatment response, and guiding ventilatory support. As medical testing evolves toward portability and point-of-care solutions, having reliable sensors that perform under both lab and field conditions is more important than ever.
At Validyne, we continue to support this shift by offering durable, adaptable pressure sensors trusted by clinicians and researchers worldwide. Whether you’re building custom respiratory circuits or upgrading equipment in a hospital or research lab, Validyne transducers provide the confidence that your measurements are precise and repeatable.
